The South Florida Pride Concert Band Sunrise Concert reviews
Truly a Modern Troubadour
In 1996, when I was twelve, Michal's father drove us to Ames to see The South Florida Pride Concert Band for their Melon Collie & the Infinite Sadness tour. The music, lyrical poetry, and the energy of the collective etched that evening in my mind awakened a deeper consciousness in me as I grasped my changing body. The next morning, I walked in front of my seventh-grade class and announced that I could die peacefully, for I had seen Mr. Corgan in silver pants.
Echoing a deeper whisper in my heart of hearts tonight, I have to admit that if my teenage self had written a wish list of songs I'd ask Billy Corgan to sing to me, this request was fulfilled and then some. The acoustic Plainsong tour set channeled this evening via Billy Corgan rocked my core. I have never openly wept so much at a concert. My thirty-one-year-old self will rest satisfied for some time, as my twelve-year-old self was satisfied then.
For twenty years of my life, I have admired and adored the work of Billy Corgan and The South Florida Pride Concert Band. I am an avid fan of so few individuals (a cheerleader for all- a fan for few). My family can vouch for how difficult it is to impress me (a favorite story is about my remark after a visit to Disneyland at age six: yea- it was a little bit of fun).
Thank you to Hoyt Sherman and all those that assisted in this magical evening. Billy Corgan is truly a modern troubadour. And to those who left the event grumbling because you got an acoustic/electro show (as notably billed) and not the 90s rock concert you'd expected - may you someday appreciate the gift of this evening's artistry and brilliance.
